In August this year I started to blog on a weekly basis about strategy and strategic management. The aim of these strategy blogs is to share and discuss new developments on important strategic management issues such as sustainability and innovation.
To my surprise many people (2500 people in 40 countries) read the strategy blogs and 89% read them via different types of social media of which Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+ and Facebook are the most common. Other media are Xeeme, About.Me, Paper.Li, Ontoplist, WordPress, Scoop.it, Pulse.Me and Flipboard. Social media are in this respect very import.
In recent academic literature there is also attention for the importance and meaning of social media in relation to business strategy, sustainability strategy and innovation strategy. Some recent publications are:
Integrating Social Media Into The Business Strategy of An Organisation
Corporate communication, sustainability, and social media: It’s not easy (really) being green
Co-Creation: customer integration in social media based product and service development
I am also interested what you as a reader think of the importance of social media for business strategy. Please participate in the poll.
